Irvin Issues Statement on 2021-22 State Budget

June 25, 2021

HARRISBURG – Rep. Rich Irvin (Huntingdon/Centre/Mifflin) today issued the following statement after the House approved the 2021-22 state budget:

“The budget we passed today is fiscally responsible. It funds our core government responsibilities, helps those sectors most impacted by the pandemic and puts money aside to help address any future financial challenges we may encounter.

“Although in the middle of the pandemic the governor was asking for a $7 billion increase in the Personal Income Tax on struggling Pennsylvanians, we were able today to pass a balanced budget that includes NO new taxes or fees.

“Funding is prioritized for education, nursing homes and public safety. In addition to increased funding for basic, pre-K and special education, this budget contains allocations for summer enrichment, after school programs and learning loss initiatives to help students who have struggled due to education changes during the pandemic. Nursing homes will receive funding for pandemic-related costs, such as purchasing personal protective equipment and ongoing testing. To keep our public safe, two new classes of state police cadets will be funded in addition to financial support for first responders.

“We have also set aside $2.52 billion in the state’s Rainy Day Fund to help with any future economic challenges.”
