Irvin, Ward Announce $2.1 Million in State Funding for Community Projects
10/22/2024
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Rich Irvin (R-Franklin/Huntingdon) and Sen. Judy Ward (R- ) today announced $2,104,734 in funding from the state’s Local Share Account (LSA) program for community projects in the 81st Legislative District.
“I personally advocated for these projects to receive funding under the LSA program,” said Irvin. “Our communities need financial support to complete both needed projects for health and safety reasons, as well as projects that enhance the quality of life of their residents. These projects will accomplish those goals and make a significant difference in their communities.”
“The statewide LSA grant program is a vital tool for municipalities as they seek to improve or repair critical water, sewer, or transportation infrastructure or meet other unique needs,” said Ward. “While the grants are very competitive and not all projects are able to be funded, the projects funded this round are well-deserving and will improve quality of life for the local communities.”
Projects that received funding include:
• $77,738 for the Mill Creek Volunteer Fire Department to replace and upgrade its generator.
• $30,930 for rehabilitation of the Great War monument and World War II monument located in Broad Top City Borough.
• $494,173 for Petersburg Sewer Authority to clean, smoke test and televise lines and make spot repairs to remove leaks within the collection system. The funds will assist with construction, engineering and administration costs of the project.
• $693,840 for Three Springs Borough for the rehabilitation of a road and sidewalk located in the borough. The project will include grading and repairing the roadway and sidewalk, along with needed stormwater facilities at Rio Grande and Ashman streets. Funding will cover the construction, engineering and administrative costs of the project.
• $116,935 for Alexandria Borough Water Authority to purchase maintenance vehicles for use in Alexandria Borough and Porter Township. Vehicles needed include a truck, tractor mower and compact excavator.
• $279,100 for a new wastewater treatment plant UV disinfection system at the Cassville Water and Sewer Authority.
• $100,000 for stormwater upgrades throughout Dudley Borough. The funding will be used for construction and engineering costs.
• $264,044 for the construction of a retaining wall system to prevent riverbank scour along Point Road in Juniata Township. Funding will be used for construction, engineering and administrative costs.
• $47,974 for renovations to the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Company in Spruce Creek Township. Renovations will include updates to the restrooms, kitchen and meeting room to address mold concerns.
Funding for the LSA program comes from the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for these grants.
