Irvin to Host Pvt. Clyde C. McVitty Memorial Bridge Dedication Ceremony in Orrstown
WHAT: A ceremony dedicating the bridge carrying State Route 997 over Conodoguinet Creek in Letterkenny Township as the Pvt. Clyde C. McVitty Memorial Bridge. McVitty served with the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd “All-American” Airbourne Division. He was tragically killed in action during the Anzio Beach landing on Feb. 9, 1944. Rep. Rich Irvin (R-Franklin/Huntingdon) authored the bill naming the bridge, which was passed as part of
Act 63 of 2024.
WHO: Irvin; the Rev. William Kauffman; Lurgan Township Supervisor Lawrence “Chip” Kolb Jr.; Sam Worley, former Franklin County commissioner and World War II veteran; Minutemen of American Legion Post #223 Shippensburg; and the family of McVitty.
